Calm Hysteria

CB# 32

July 12 – 15, 2008

“… Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.” – James Allen

Things are heating up for my departure.

Dave is still giving me overall good reports on his condition. Sleeping OK, pain levels controlled and low level, but having a lot of muscle stiffness. Probably due to lack of movement, which he is very guarded about, understandably. He has another rad treatment and hopefully he’ll be done. He is tolerating the oral chemo and meds fairly well (Thalidomide/Dex).

He signed the papers on the house in Elk Grove and we will be in the house in less than a week! His parents are anxious to get there too and see Dave for themselves. Poor things. I know this must be so hard on them to have waited so long to get out here and see their son. Anyway, I suspect Irma’s good cooking will help Dave feel better and lift his spirits.

I’m off to dinner with Ron & Sally before I head out and tomorrow will go into the office to finish up some more small things and say goodbye to folks. So sad I won’t be able to have a proper send off and opportunity to say thanks to everyone, but it is what it is.

Tuesday, July 15, 1:30 AM

Well I have managed to get everything into my suitcase with a few hours sleep ahead of me. My dear friend will be calling me at 5:15 am to make sure I get up. It doesn’t help me to sleep when I’m worried my alarm won’t go off when I’m catching such an early morning flight.

Everything else is moving along fairly well.

Last night was a typical and yet special evening in our “court”.  The neighbors were all out and about and chatting. The new neighbors who bought my house were moving a few things in – their stuff arrives on Wednesday. Their little girls are going to LOVE it in the court as they are the “little ones” and there are lots of girls who will enjoy playing with them.

Kip had a few hard days not knowing what will become of him until Hudson arrives. We are staying at my next door neighbor’s house until I leave. I know he will jump with joy when Hudson arrives and enjoy the cross country adventure he will be on. I will be trying not to stress out about him while they are on the road. I’ve been hammering poor Hudson with never letting him out of the car without his leash on! Hudson is a little annoyed with me, but I have been trying to explain to him, that while Kip is an amazing dog, he is a Suburban Prince and has little in the way of worldly ways. People have been laughing about me being worried about Kip. I said, “Right, Hudson will be fine, my car is just a thing and replaceable, but Kip, my baby doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on!” It’s hard to comfort his worried look.
