Schacht SideKick Wheel

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep”. – Scott Adams

One of the things that happened for me when I returned from Florida over the holidays was to get my new spinning wheel out of “lay away”.

During my class I took home 3 different wheels to spin on. This one was the one I was hoping to love and took it home last. I was happy that I did love it. It collapses (it is folded up here in the photo to your left) and only weighs 13 pounds with a carrying strap to throw it over your shoulder.

Sadly since they are new, they are just not yet available used anywhere! So… full price! ARGH!

Another thing with it’s own lingo and much to learn, but it is extremely enjoyable even if I have no clue on what I’m doing…

“I believe that the yarn we spin is capable of mending the broken warp and woof of our life.” – Ghandi

So while I’m anxious and impatient to get into all the different fibers, beads, arty yarns, right now I’m trying to stay focused on technique and controlling of the fibers and understanding things like “whorl ratios” for which yarns, amount of twist, etc. Bottom line is, it’s fun and pleasurable to do.

Some of the photos are from my first efforts and the borrowed wheel and then others are my current efforts.

The cat is Mr. Knitty from The Yarn Shoppe. I took my wheel in to spin while the ladies were knitting and Mr. Knitty had to check out the wheel and the yarn fiber.
