Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Multiple Myeloma Program

“Hope Through Discovery”

Link here

Jon Huntsman, a self made billionaire and author of “Winners Never Cheat”, funded and created the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah at the University of Utah. Mr. Huntsman after battling his own cancer put his money where his heart is, as he has done so many times before, and created the Huntsman Cancer Institute in the vision he saw from someone who had been a patient. He firmly believes that they are going to find a cure for cancer at Huntsman. That is his mandate, that is his vision. In the process, he wooed Dr. Tricot from Arkansas.

Dr. Tricot has dedicated his professional career to researching and treating patients with Multiple Myeloma. He worked under Dr. Bart Barlogie for around 15 years. He has taken the Total Therapy protocol to Huntsman. Though Dr. Tricot has been in Salt Lake now for some time, his reputation is still ingrained in the halls and walls of UAMS. I met people who knew people who followed Dr. Tricot from Little Rock to Salt Lake.

Recently I have met two patients from Huntsman (online) and have enjoyed picking their brain a bit about the “Huntsman Experience”. Being the sister Total Therapy facility to Little Rock, I have been quite curious. One of them sent me this great video and I post here for you.

My understanding is that Dr. Tricot still participates in the Tuesday Round Up meetings in Little Rock to discuss patients and collaborates with them in myeloma research. I know one thing FOR SURE, the skiing is way better in Utah!

A video link with Jon Huntsman talking about the institute, cancer and his Sigma Chi pledging to select the Huntsman Cancer Institute as their focus for fund raising. You’ll get a “feel” for the man.

Dr. Tricot has left Huntsman for Iowa. I have no information on what type of Myeloma treatment protocols are currently being used at Huntsman or who is running the show there.

Kris, thank you for your Huntsman testimonial! I can’t wait to read more about your personal experience there! Good Stuff.

And I’m so impressed you got to meet Mr. Huntsman. I saw an in depth interview of him and was duly impressed. I’m reading his book and bought it for my newly employed, college graduated, son. Its refreshing to read about good ‘ol fashioned gentlemanly manners.

Rumor has it Sam Walton (WalMart) was instrumental with the Little Rock facility. If true, then we have a couple of generous billionaires. America! What a great country! Most generous people in the world.

Being a patient at Huntsman Cancer Institute, I have nothing but good to say about my care. I actually met Jon Huntsman in a waiting area. You could tell that he had just had treatment and was not feeling too well, however he took the time to come over and shake my hand and speak to me. Asking how I was doing. I thanked him profusely for the great care I was receiving. That is just a small example of how I have been treated since I began my myeloma treatment. I am not just an mm patient but a person with my own background, needs, and “brand” of myeloma.
Oh and by the way. Mr. Huntsman’s son Jon Huntsman Jr. was the govern of Utah, and is now retiring from being the China diplomat for the U.S. There is speculation that he will be running for U.S. President.

You can read more about my treatment at Huntsman at howtomoveamountain.blogspot.com I hope to add more information about Huntsman Cancer Institute on my blog soon- Thanks to Lori’s encouragement.
