Back of the Rosemont B&B

Dave: “What do they say?”

Lori (reading test reports): “Well, they say you get to live another 6 months.”

Laughter from Dave, the Nurse, and our new Doc.

All went well, as we expected. Dave is about as low risk as you can be and still have MM. We are monitored closely at home and with monthly tests mailed in, so really, we had no worries. Continue Reading »

“One day at a time–this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering.” – Unknown

I read once that depression comes from thinking of past, that stress comes from worrying about future, and the best way to combat both is to think and be in the present. I would have to agree. Continue Reading »

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.” – Steve Jobs, Stanford Commencement Speech, 2005

I was a “Mac Girl” way back. But I didn’t get my hands on my very own Mac until 2007! Dave was a PC guy, and being the primary breadwinner, he got to decide. Eventually, I made my own purchase while working at the University where I had tech support in my department. And then our daughter wanted one for college. Dave was all worked up in a frenzy about the cost and one of his tech guys explained to him that it was worth it and why and so eventually he relented. Continue Reading »

“A new study has a message for doctors and nurses who fail to wash their hands: Don’t think about yourself. Think about your patients.” – Article

I don’t know if you have noticed lately, but there has been a campaign going on to get healthcare providers to wash their hands in the hospital/clinic setting. Continue Reading »

“A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour.” – Author Unknown

This week I traveled to Chicago for a myeloma event and met up with some folks I have met before, and thoroughly enjoying that, as I always do. I traveled with a fellow MMer I met the last time on one of these excursions who lives in Sacramento. Continue Reading »

WEGO HealthTV Debut

“The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.”  -C.C. Scott

Here’s the link to the blood cancer channel – and to my “Food Portion Trick” on WEGO Health TV’s new health channel. Another bright idea to bring patients and caregivers together online.

An Expression…

Each day without you,
is one more day closer
to finding you again-

Each moment a pain pierces my heart,
is one more moment closer
to feeling your love –

Each time I cry for you,
is one more time that will bring me to the day
I smile and laugh,
for having known you –

Moment by moment, bit by bit,
all that you were
is becoming all that you are.

MM Widows

“When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you.” – Unknown

I was having a tough morning, waking up with the realization that my beloved Kip is gone. No more perky head popping up to greet me when my feet roll out of bed. No more downward dog stretches in the morning before I start my day. He would do them with me and his were always perfect. He would be done and bury his head under my chest, between my arms, and lick me as if to say, “Nice job. Needs work, but you are getting better. Come on now, let’s go get breakfast!” Continue Reading »

“It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions but hard to get one single remedy.”  – Chinese Proverb

Arnold Goodman, MD, MM patient, and relatively new columnist over at The Myeloma Beacon has written a very nice article today that you should take a look at. I’ve talked a bit in the past about how you should regard physicians that you are consulting with in your journey to find the right treatment course for your Multiple Myeloma. While Dr. Goodman chose a different path than us, what he writes in this article I completely agree with. As I have also written on numerous occasions, whatever treatment path you choose, needs to be yours, hopefully one of an informed choice and that you need to OWN it and move forward, don’t look back, no regrets.

Article Here

Thank you Dr. Goodman for bringing your very personal perspective to your own journey with Multiple Myeloma.

Our KipMan

Tani & Kip

“The only fault I have ever found with dogs is that they don’t live as long as we do.” Jackie, My Dog Trainer

First, Kip is still with us…

I have had a hard week. Our beloved Kip is failing dramatically and I’m grieving terribly. Scrambling to see what is wrong and if it can be fixed and feeling the overwhelming foreboding of what will inevitably come. Some of my friends have said that it’s harder to lose a pet than a relative. I can’t say I completely disagree with them on this point. I guess it depends on how close the relative is and how wonderful your pet is. Continue Reading »

A terrific post over at The Myeloma Beacon from one of my favorite MM Warriors and Writers, Sean Murray. Article Here

I was privileged to meet Sean Murray in the flesh, in Arkansas. And of course as I began to read his Myeloma Musings, I found a kindred spirit. If you’ve read my blog, you would certainly see the similarity in attitudes and viewpoints on life, family, and living in Myelomaville.

MM Warrior Meet-Up!

Jan, MM Caregiver & Friend Extraordinaire!

“You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

What a GREAT day I had yesterday reading about some Multiple Myeloma Caregiver friends having great news to report.

First, Jan, to your left there, wearing one of my scarves I made for her when we were there for a checkup. A beautiful boucle scarf by Blue Heron that I wove just for her to help “freshen up” her wardrobe!

She and Bruce went for a “check up” in January this year and Bruce had relapsed. Continue Reading »

“Media, the plural of mediocrity.” – Jimmy Breslin

Well the “chaos merchants” are at it again. Margaret has taken a pretty nice stab at the hub-bub. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care what it is if they can get serious results and relief. But what I really liked about Margaret’s article actually had little to do with the ecstasy research. I liked her links to her past postings and studies about the curative effect of cucurmin and depression. Continue Reading »

'Rosehaven' Begonia

“If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”  – Mary Engelbreit

What a truly lovely week I have had. Yesterday, my father in law sent me this photo of a Begonia. I got a cutting of this lovely house Begonia from my friend Paula, who owns Rosehaven Farms in Versailles, Kentucky. She breeds both Thoroughbreds and Saddlebreds and has HUGE pots with this Begonia and it has been plucked by many friends from around the USA. Paula and I make jokes about it all the time. I suggested she get a map of the US and put colored pushpins in where this beautiful plant has ended up. When it gets large enough it blooms. Anyway, my mother-in-law feel in love with the beautiful greens and so I made sure she had a rooted cutting of it a few months ago and look at it now! She’s very happy. Continue Reading »

Our Story – Audio

“Everyone has a story, and Dave and I have ours.” – Lori Puente, Myeloma Caregiver

I recorded “Our Story” for those of you interested in hearing it. It is “the talk” I give when asked, to offer hope and courage. It’s about 10+ minutes. I hope the link works for you. Love, Lori

“The only thing that saves us from the bureaucracy is its inefficiency.” – Eugene McCarthy

OUR SAGA of sending Dave’s lab samples to Arkansas has finally, I hope, found it’s path from Dave’s blood/urine collection, to centrifuge, to shipment, to a lab somewhere on the campus of UAMS!

As some of you may remember in past posts, Dave didn’t do it for a whole year! There were several obstacles, seemingly not so big, but somehow insurmountable. I mean really folks! Continue Reading »

The KipMeister!

Sigh...

“Labradors [are] lousy watchdogs.  They usually bark when there is a stranger about, but it is an expression of unmitigated joy at the chance to meet somebody new, not a warning.”  – Norman Strung

Kip and I survived the Vet visit. Great clinic, great recommendation, adorable puppies and dogs. A hopping place for a Sunny Sunday afternoon!
