Acknowledge simple gifts. There are gifts all around us.

I’m an old-fashioned road trip kinda gal, so I ordered an Adventure Edition of a road atlas and a full fold-out paper map of the USA for our road trip home. I’ve already put in several stops and come up with about nine days. Dave has yet to delve in. And I don’t know how he’ll be feeling at the end of all this and if we’ll have to get on home. But it’s enjoyable for me to dream that we can have a leisurely trip home visiting a few friends and some places we’d like to see. It’s good to have something to look forward to.

I dropped off my car yesterday at the VW dealership. My fobs need a module replacement, and it’s rather involved. So I had to wait a few days for them to have a loaner car for me that could easily handle the wheelchair. I hope they get done soon as I’m already missing our vehicle, which I have dubbed “Thor.” haha

Dave demonstrating his walking abilities

We got our Physical Therapy consult this morning. We had to get up early, which was challenging as we have enjoyed our lazy mornings in our jammies. But it was well worth the effort. Our therapist was quite impressed with how well Dave is walking. He has ordered us in-home PT and given us some seated exercises for Dave to do to build his hip flexors and other muscle groups. After a couple of weeks of in-home therapy, he says that if we want to come back to him, he would be happy to have us. They usually don’t work with outpatients, so it was seriously great that they fit us in and gave us a consult.

Dave is in great spirits, and everything is happening exactly as it should. Not having any surprises and doing so well has been a wonderful thing.

I also managed to get to the DMV and pick up a handicap placard for the car. It has been another small thing that has made our lives infinitely more accessible. It takes the step of getting him out of the car in the circle where I have room and then leaving him there while I park the car. Now I can park in the garage near the entrance and get him in and out there. I had a lovely conversation when I returned from the DMV with one of the apt neighbors who has the cutest little teacup Yorkie named Pebbles. She told me the better DMV to go to when we register the car. She promised we’ll be in and out! So while it’s further, it will be easier on Dave and still probably get us done quicker overall than how long I needed to wait to get the placard!

We see Dr. VanRhee again tomorrow for a quick check-in and see how we are doing and if we can chill or have more that we need to do.

It seems every day I meet lovely and interesting peeps milling about here at the apartment or a store. It’s been very uplifting for me.

And then this cutie pie, our new granddaughter, smiling at her Daddy with her new hair clip!
