An article I penned, posted over at The Myeloma Beacon on our experience with Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT) and Dave’s Stem Cell Collection.

I hope to write a future post here about using radiation for treating lesions and pain in Multiple Myeloma. I am trying to collect some findings on the subject. In the meantime, the science is pretty clear that HBOT does indeed mobilize stem cells. That mobilization can assist a patient in many different areas of healing, most notably, un-healing wounds and helping to reverse radiation necrosis (click link for paper). Someday I hope that after a patient is radiated they will walk next door to HBOT to heal the healthy cells that were damaged in the process. I won’t hold my breath mind you, but who knows, it could happen. Or better yet, something less damaging and more successful will be discovered than radiation in the first place.

Special thanks to Pat Killingsworth who had originally requested I write an article for his blog about our experience and agreeing to let me peddle it over at the Beacon first, and Julie Shilane for her guidance and editing. And to Michael G. at HBOT of Sacramento who asked me and waited a really long time for me to get it done!

  1. In addition to mobilizing stem cells, HBOT can also help heal radiation damage.

Eva, I ‘googled’, how to buy your own HBO chamber and some portable chambers came up that are inflatable and running around $5K with monthly payment opportunities. Generally used for divers. So it looks like you should be able to get one and perhaps you can find one used from a dive club? Good luck.

Eva, I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s near drowning. I have no idea how to buy your own chamber. I would suggest contacting a local HBOT Center in your area. I have found the people who run these clinics to generally be very helpful. Of course they would probably not recommend using it on your own, but I would be persistent in developing a communication with them.

The Chamber of Hope operates 5 portable chambers. We treat children with autism, CP, near drowning, shaken baby, Crohn’s and Lyme diseases, TBI, stroke and a host of other neurological and physical impairments. We can be contacted via our website: http://www.chamberofhope.org. Our mild HBOT is FREE for children! We treat up to 36 children per day for 40 sessions, more if needed. Two children with CP had stem cells implanted overseas and were told to get mHBOT within 90 days of returning to the US or the procedure would be of zero value. Unable to find chambers in their area that would treat them, they found us. As soon they went ino the chamber, they began to notice improvements. Our funds come 100% from individual and group donation, no insurance or government money. Our results with autism are incredible! No-verbal children beegin speaking. They relate to their caregivers. They sleep through the night. Seizures? No more. Contact us from the website for more details. And!
a donation would be appreciated. $250 allows us to provide 40 treatments! How donate is on the website. We are adding chambers! Will have 7 chambers by the end of June 2011. Contact us–we are here to help.

I received this comment from The Beacon today and with permission I’m posting it here. Its a heartwarming story.

    Dear Lori,
I enjoyed reading about how Hyperbaric Oxygen and Stem Cells helped your husband. I own and operate a Hyperbaric Facility in Delray Beach, Florida and am working with a physician, Dipnarine Maharaj, MD where we are doing similar work. We are also treating diabetes, Parkinsons’, stroke and anoxic encephalopathy(near drown victims).
I donate treatments to Veterans who are suffering from concussive Traumatic Brain Injuries from blast exposures.
You can read a story about some of my work at this link

One of the veterans I treated went from suicidal to the Honor Roll in college; another has started the Red, White and Blueberry Veterans farm in Jacksonville, Florida. They are both happy to talk with anyone who is interested in learning about their story.
