The Burgundy Café

“In my day, socializing was going out to a party to meet people. Now, socializing is taking place via networked devices.” – Zach Nelson

Indeed, some express grave concern for the way many of us “socialize” these days. On the Net. I for one, have simply added it to my bag of tools in life. If I didn’t have the opportunity to socialize on the net, I would not experience the richness and fullness of meeting others traveling that road in “Myelomaville” (courtesy of Sean Murray MyelomaYoureloma). The trick is to incorporate it into your life, but not let it become your life! By all means, get out there and enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and LIVE interaction! But for those of us with a rare disease, such as Myeloma, its very nice to have others we can “talk” to about things.

The gang over at The Myeloma Beacon have been keeping there eye on the ball with many requests for a chat room so we can “talk live” (in nerdy tech lingo). I understand these things are comprised of both the technical (programs that can be incorporated into their existing website) as well as the practical. Do they have enough members to have live conversation or will you be sitting in there by yourself waiting for a surf-by visit? Then there is the overseas bunch, 2 am for us is lunch time for them. All appropriate considerations. Anyway, they have decided to do an interim approach with a special forum section where the regular rules don’t apply (except civility) and you can talk about anything from Myeloma to your pet dog.

So let’s see if we can’t get it rolling a bit and have a dialog in the hopes that perhaps one day, soon, perhaps, we can get that live chat room going!
