OMG!  Dave and I both forgot our anniversary on the 27th!  ARGH!  We did this once before and the only thing that saves us is that we both forgot!  Gross, I know.  But neither of us remembers this sort of thing very well.  He had just gotten out of the hospital two years ago when he was diagnosed and I remember he was lying in bed and I said, “Well honey, Happy Anniversary, I love you.”  He said, “Happy Anniversary and I love you too.”  Last year I think we did something, but I can’t remember at the moment.  Is chemo brain contagious or is it just menopause?

He is swamped with a 5 Million subscriber cut-over from Verizon to his company tomorrow and heading out to Seattle.  On our actual anniversary he went in for his weekly infusion and I was busy doing stuff at home preparing for his trip and mine to Huntington Beach, CA for the 4th of July with my daughter and friends.

I do want to plan something special for us and the kids next year for our 30th.

Me (15) on my horse that I trained 'Poncho' at the farm

We got married on my Grandparent’s farm in NE Pennsylvania (about 200 acres – Holstein Dairy Farm).  It was spectacularly beautiful.  Over 150 guests, big BBQ, horses to ride, badminton to play, crochet, children running around and the dogs behaved.  My dress was found in an antique thrift store, a two piece bodice and skirt of crochet lace, off the shoulder.  It cost more to have it cleaned and a slip made than the dress cost.  My dear friend Gail had been with me at the time and I remember when I pulled the dress off the rack, jammed in a back corner of the shop we both looked at each other wide-eyed.  I tried  it on and it was like “seriously?”  YES!  So she paid for it and I reimbursed her later.  A local family loaned me a parasol of the same period and I wore my mother’s hand beaded gloves that she wore at her wedding.  She gave me my father’s wedding ring which she had switched when my father died.  She took his off and put hers on his little finger when he was buried.  I had it engraved with their initials and ours.  Friends and local businesses all chipped in for flowers, the cake (courtesy of Joan H.), food, making a big grill (courtesy of Carl O.), and Dave and my grandfather made a beautiful lattice arbor.  My grandfather Otis gave me away – it was a very special moment.  My sister was my Maid of Honor and had bought a beautiful spring dress with lavender flowers.  We only had a few chairs for the elderly and the rest stood all around us.  My Aunt June and Cousin Robin played violin and Cousin Melodie played classical guitar.  They did a beautiful piece from Vivaldi.  When the ceremony was done and we were walking back together I heard “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain When She Comes!”  I giggled.  I asked later “what was that?”  They smiled and said, they had forgotten to come up with something at that point in the service and all knew that song and winged it.  It was PERFECT.

Happy Anniversary Dave!  I hope we have many more together and that we remember them!  🙂

Love, Lori
